At our Afterschool Craft and Communicate Club, creativity took centre stage as our students explored the world of abstract art in a unique and engaging way. Using a simple yet effective technique with masking tape, the children created striking pieces of artwork that truly reflect imagination, individuality, and experimentation.

The activity began with students placing strips of masking tape across their paper in different directions, forming a variety of shapes and sections. This process encouraged them to think creatively about space, patterns, and design. Once the tape was in place, they used a range of colours to fill each section, experimenting with colour combinations, contrasts, and blending techniques.

The real excitement came when the tape was carefully removed, revealing bold, clean lines and beautifully defined shapes underneath. Each piece was completely unique—some vibrant and energetic, others calm and harmonious—showcasing the diverse personalities and artistic choices of our students.

Beyond just art, this activity supported important skills such as fine motor development, patience, planning, and self-expression. It also provided a wonderful opportunity for students to communicate their ideas, describe their creative choices, and reflect on their work with peers.

We are incredibly proud of the creativity and enthusiasm shown by all participants. These abstract masterpieces are a testament to the idea that sometimes, the simplest materials can lead to the most impressive outcomes.
